Season of NO
Current trajectory vs current results.
I am coming to the realization that what I say "no" to has a bigger and more positive impact on my life than what I say "yes" to.
I am finding this to be true in all areas of my life: career, social, and well-being.
At the end of the day, if I want to prioritize things, I need to say "no" to a lot more things than I say "yes" to.
As I make a slow transition in my professional life, I find myself constantly battling over work opportunities. These opportunities often align with what I want to move away from, but they pay more. However, I am moving toward something with a much higher and more rewarding ceiling. The problem is that results from this type of endeavor are not seen immediately. Up to this point, all my "results" from work have been immediate; I work on X day and receive Y amount of money at the end.
I read a quote last year that has stayed with me since, and has certainly helped a lot.
You should be far more concerned with your current trajectory than with your current results.
It can be very tempting to solely focus on making money in the short term. This approach is comfortable, feels secure, and is easier to keep track of. However, it's important to take a step back from time to time in order to move forward.
Stepping back and saying no, 100%, carries its risks. However, there is also a risk involved in remaining within the same framework of thought, work, and life. I do not want to stagnate, and if I am not improving, I am regressing. In my view, a flat line in life does not exist; there is only constant movement either upward or downward.
Anyway, I am writing this a day late because, to be honest, I am struggling to do everything I need to do. But that's okay; life doesn't always need to be in some sort of romantic equilibrium. Sometimes, the chaos in life is part of its equilibrium.
Lots of love,
Koko
